A rural holiday in Landes

Does the small municipality of Messanges mean anything to you? This flower-decorated village of 962 inhabitants has two beaches, an extensive municipal forest and two natural lakes (Moïsan and La Prade). This is the ideal place for a camping holiday. You can stroll along the stalls of the traditional markets, enjoy the rural atmosphere of the place and share good times in the waves with your family. A stay on the coast in the south-west of France

Let’s now go further south to reach the charming village of Seignosse and its lively district: le Penon. It is situated by the sea (5 minutes from our residence La Plage Centrale). You will find a Skate Park, shops, restaurants, a water park and no less than 4 beaches! On the Seignosse-bourg side, you can venture into the Etang Noir nature reserve. It covers 52 hectares of wetlands and guided tours are offered in July and August.

On holiday in Landes de Gascogne

Mimizan is another municipality located in the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park. In addition to its 4 beaches stretching over 10 km, Mimizan also has beautiful gardens. They also border Aureilhan lake. You can admire them at any time from the flower-bedecked promenade. It is a footpath bordered by more than 400 species of shrubs and flowers. As soon as night falls, you will be happy to head to Stelsia Casino at the entrance of Mimizan Beach, for a games night with friends!

Le mail de Vieux-Boucau

Le Mail, Vieux-Boucau

The family seaside resort: Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains

Are you looking for a tourist destination that is warm, lively but friendly? Vieux-Boucau and its welcoming and colourful cobbled streets should meet all your expectations! This manageable-sized seaside resort in Landes has many holiday apartments, such as those you can find in Les Sables d’Orresidences and Lagocéan. These resorts all benefit from a privileged geographical location, just a few minutes walk from the ocean.

In Vieux-Boucau, with its supervised beaches, there is something for everyone! The north beach, also known as Sablères Beach, is located 500 metres from the town centre. The central beach is easily accessible from the village centre (on foot, by bike or car) and ideal for surfing. Finally, you can also reach the Port d’Albret beach, its warm water and water sports activities by taking the Mail. It is a paved promenade that connects the centre of the town with the marine lake.

Whether your holiday accommodation is by the ocean or by the bullring, you will always find something to do to have a good time with your loved ones. With, for example, the following entertainment and activities: shows, funfair, concerts, miniature golf, tennis, skateboarding session, open-air cinema, surfing lessons, etc. Vieux-Boucau is also the ideal place to discover new dishes thanks to the many restaurants bordering the lake.

The European capital of surfing: Hossegor

Although popular with surfers, the pretty town of Soorts-Hossegor is not only for experienced sports enthusiasts. Its soothing, bucolic and green setting and fresh sea air will soothe the mind during your stay. Moreover, some of our holiday apartments located in the heart of this beautiful Landes village, in Résidence Plage Centrale, even have a sea view! Do you like to relax? If so, Hossegor with its 7 km of beaches (supervised from May to October), is the destination for you.

How about a little stroll in the town centre to rummage in the different shops, milkshake in hand? With its ice-cream parlours and numerous cafés, Hossegor is the ideal place to have a snack during an afternoon shopping for special, renowned surfwear brands! Don’t forget the walkway along the central beach, which is also worth a visit, with colourful houses and Basque-Landes architecture, murals, bars and restaurants on the Place des Landais and the skills of the skateboarders there.

If the central beach is too crowded for your taste, you can reach the ocean from the south beach, La Gravière Beach and even from the naturist beach. Freshwater lovers will have the choice between 4 beaches: the Chênes Lièges Beach, Rey Beach, Park Beach and White Beach. For early risers, the CapBreton Fish Market (adjoining township) will also be a stop not to be missed.

A short tour in the Basque Country

By booking a stay in a holiday apartment in Landes on the south coast, you are also on the approach to the Basque Country! Colourful towns, tapas bars, historical monuments, hikes on the heights with breathtaking panoramic views… There are some beautiful surprises in store for you in this particularly diverse department, full of nature and for sharing.

A detour to reach Biarritz

Let’s start with the star of the Basque Country’s seaside resorts, the much-loved: Biarritz! If you like ocean scenery, go to the Atalaye plateau. It is a great vantage point from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Grand Beach and the famous Barrière Casino. What’s more, this plateau overlooking the waves is only a 10-minute walk from the Résidence Bellevue Clémenceau. Here you can rent a holiday apartment with sea view. After scanning the horizon, you can go to Biarritz aquarium where you will discover more than 100 animal and plant species of the region. With, notably, magnificent grey seals. Finally, don’t forget that you will still be on the south-west coast of France and that Biarritz bears its nickname “Queen of beaches” very well!

A stopover in Bayonne, for pleasure

The pretty town of Bayonne is very easily accessible from Biarritz as the two towns touch, so it would be a shame not to go there during your visit to the Basque Country. Its medieval cobbled streets and two rivers (the Adour and the Nive) make it an unmissable place to relax and stroll with family or friends, reading the signs translated into Basque. Feeling a little hungry? You will easily find a tapas bar where you can enjoy succulent ‘pintxos’ (tapas) in the middle of the street with music and standing service. If you prefer historical visits full of detail, you’ll enjoy guided tours on foot or by boat: the Basque coast, half-timbered houses, Saint Mary’s Cathedral, the Basque Museum and Fine Arts Museum – there is no shortage of places to discover.
